Ben Reed is a photographer and cinematographer based on the North Shore of Oahu. Originally from the coastal region of North Carolina, he grew up exploring the woods and waves, passionate for all things surf. After college Ben quickly tired of the every day grind of office life, and sought something different. He needed adventure and travel in his life. Having captivated him for years, he realized one day that someone has to take the pictures in surf magazines. In 2010 he attended the Rocky Mountain School of Photography (RMSP) in Missoula, MT, where he developed his keen eye and discovered a deep and true passion for the mountains. After three years in the mountains, exploring peaks, Assistant Teaching at RMSP, and fine-tuning his rugged and honest photo style, Ben moved to the North Shore of Oahu to engross himself in the ultimate surf destination and pursue surf photography. With the help of a colleague's connection, Ben started working with legendary surf photographer Brian Bielmann in 2013. This quickly developed from an assistant into a friend/mentor relationship that finds them working side-by-side on any given job. With his passion and storytelling focus clearly on the wild outdoors and adventure sports, it was a natural shift into cinematography, especially with the Red Digital Cinema Dragon by his side.
